'We Tried to Avoid Eye-Contact With Him': Ex-CSK Star Reveals How MS Dhoni 'Lost His Cool' After Being Beaten by RCB
MS Dhoni is reputed for his calmness on the pitch but a former CSK player shared the tale of when the former captain lost his cool after suffering a humiliating defeat at home to RCB.

The legendary ODI and T20 World Cup-winning captain for India, MS Dhoni is renowned for his calmness on the field which gave him the moniker, ‘Captain Cool’. But even the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon had his moments where he lost his cool and the former India and CSK batter revealed the story behind this.

Subramaniam Badrinath, represented CSK from 2008 to 2013. During his time with the franchise, Badrinath revealed the tale of when the former CSK captain was left fuming as his side suffered a humiliating defeat at their home ground at the Chepauk Stadium.

The former India batter before narrating the story, was quick to emphasise that Dhoni had his moments where he was angry but was particular in not showing it on the field and would rather resort to showing his emotions when in the locker room.

“He’s also human. He has lost his cool but never on the field only inside the dressing room. I think he never let the opposition or the crowd or anybody know that he has lost his cool. If at all he does lose his cool, it will happen only inside the dressing room,” said the former India batter in an interview with InsideSport.

The match was against one of the original franchises in the IPL, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru who were then named as the Royal Challengers Bangalore who visited the M.A Chidambaram Stadium to face MS Dhoni’s side. There RCB were supposedly reduced to a mere score of 110 but CSK seemed to have an off-day with the bat which left Dhoni fuming.

“I remember that one match against RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) we played in Chennai. RCB got out to a very meagre score, 110 or something. I think we were trying to chase it but we lost wickets in there, in a hurry and we ended up losing the match where we couldn’t get 110 against RCB in Chepauk,” Badrinath recalled.

Following the humiliating defeat, Dhoni as per Badrinath had walked into the dressing room where he furiously kicked a water bottle to showcase his frustration regarding his team’s performance.

“So I remember I got out to a bad shot, I played this lap shot against Anil Kumble and got myself LBW (leg-before-wicket). So he was coming inside the dressing room and I was standing right there,” Badrinath revealed.

“There was a small water bottle in front of me and MS just kicked the bottle right out of the park and we were all trying to avoid eye contact with MS in that dressing room, all of us, we were trying to stay away, steer clear of MS Dhoni,” he added.

In most cases, the captain has a team meeting where he expresses where the side fell short but MS Dhoni was a man of few words and his emotions alone were enough to showcase what he thought of his side’s performance that day.

“He didn’t say anything, there was no team meeting, there was nothing. That’s why I think non-verbal communication is the most powerful form of communication,” he concluded.
