Besides Kareena and Ranbir, the original cast also featured Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan.

Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do has become a favourite among her fans, who keep returning to the family drama for its gripping narrative and powerful performances by the actors. The film featured Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar in lead roles. However, barring Anil and Shefali, the film’s lead cast used to be completely different.

As per reports, Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan were supposed to play Ranveer and Priyanka’s roles. While promoting Animal last year, Anil Kapoor confirmed this and said, “When I said yes to Dil Dhadakne Do, you were doing it.” Ranbir had to reportedly bow out from the film due to scheduling conflicts. Then, Kareena Kapoor also opted out as her drive to sign the film was being able to work with her cousin.

Kareena called this her loss in a 2014 interview. She told the Hindustan Times, “It’s my loss because I love Zoya, but couldn’t be part of her film. I am dying to work with her. Inshallah, this isn’t the last film she is going to make, and it’s not the last film that I’m not able to do. Aage bhi bahut padi hai zindagi (there’s life ahead). Whenever she has a role for me, I’ll definitely do it.”

As per reports, Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan were supposed to play Ranbir and Kareena’s love interests. However, they also opted out after the lead cast changed. The roles eventually went to Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar respectively.

Dil Dhadakne Do came out in 2015 and remains as one of the most talked about films in Zoya Akhtar’s career. The film also featured Vikrant Massey, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab, Manoj Pahwa and Divya Seth in key roles. Aamir Khan had a special part to play as the voice actor for the dog in the film. The film earned nearly Rs. 150 crores (gross) worldwide.
