Padmaavat Box Office Collection: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Magnum Opus Mints Rs 24 Crore
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, released on January 25th.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmaavat released on January 25th after 5 modifications and a title change. Despite threats from violent fringe outfits, the viewers flocked to theatres to watch Bhansali's magnum opus.

After setting off on a rock solid start overseas, Bhansali's film managed to mint over Rs 24 crores in India, out of which 5 crores were minted during the paid previews which were held a day before its theatrical release.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the earnings and wrote, "Despite non-screening in few states and protests/disturbances, #Padmaavat fares VERY WELL on Day 1... Had it been a peaceful/smooth all-India release, the biz would’ve touched ₹ 28 / ₹ 30 cr... Wed [limited preview screenings] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr. Total: ₹ 24 cr. India biz."

The business has been impacted slightly as the film wasn't screened in 4 states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat due to the ongoing protests by Karni Sena.

Earlier in the day, Adarsh shared the film's overseas collection and said that the film has taken on a fabulous start in key international markets including Australia, New Zealand and UK.

The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, has been mired in controversies since its inception as Bhansali was accused of distorting historical facts and depicting Rajputs in a bad light. But the initial reviews of the film narrate a rather different tale. While Deepika-Shahid's performance as Rani Padmavati and Maharawal Ratan Singh has impressed the viewers, it's Ranveer Singh's act as Allaudin Khilji that takes away the cake.
