Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut Madgaon Express is inching closer to the Rs 20 crore mark in India. The film has been well-received since it was released on March 22. Even though it faced tough competition from Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, the film has managed to stay strong at the box office.
After two weeks in the theatres, the film earned Rs 1.57 crores on its second Sunday, adding the total to Rs 17.75 crores. The film is close to the Rs 20 crore mark at the domestic box office. With no major theatrical release till this Eid, the film is expected to enjoy a healthy run at the box office.
Directed by Kunal Kemmu, Madgaon Express revolves around the story of three friends who go on a vacation to Goa, only to find their epic vacation plan turns into a nightmare. Upendra Limaye and Chhaya Kadam are also said to be part of the comedy-drama. The film has got positive reviews from critics and is being loved by audience. Several social media users are spreading a good word of mouth for the film.
News18 gave the film a 4-star rating and wrote in our review: “Madgaon Express is something that we’ve never seen before and thank god for that. In fact, it’s even tough to slot it into a certain genre. The film is whacky, loud and chaotic and unapologetically revels in its own eccentricities.”
“The characters are all oddballs and you wouldn’t want to encounter most of them in real life. It almost feels like Kunal chose to tell a tale without adhering to any set structures of storytelling and yet there’s a method to the madness. It’s so all over the place and such an incredible hodgepodge of so many things that you can’t help but burst out into peals of laughter every now and then, and that’s Madgaon Express’ biggest win,” the review added.
Released on March 22, Madgaon Express stars Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, and Avinash Tiwary in the lead. This is the first time that the trio is working together.
