According to a post by Variety, apart from Lohan and Curtis in the sequel, other actors who will reprise their roles include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. In addition to them, the new film will also have Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons in major roles.
The film is being directed by Nisha Ganatra. She has recently grabbed a lot of praise for directing some episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales and feature films including The High Note, starring Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross and Late Night, which had Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson in it.
According to Variety, Curtis first showed interest in this film while she was speaking to The View in October 2022. In the interview, she revealed that she had actually written to Disney about wanting to make Freaky Friday 2. The producer of the original film Andrew Gunn, as well as former Disney executive Kristin Burr, are also reportedly back for the film.
The original Freaky Friday film is based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name. Before the 2003 film, it was also adapted into a 1976 movie that starred Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris in lead roles.
Freaky Friday 2, according to Forbes, picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” reads the official synopsis.
