If Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron Was Made Today, Our Legs Would've Been Broken: Ranjit Kapoor
Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron was a slap in the face of Indian administration and political system.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is probably director Kundan Shah’s finest and most celebrated work. Shah might not be with us, but his dark satire which starred veterans Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Bhakti Bharve and Neena Gupta, still remains as relevant today as it was three decades ago.

The film was a slap in the face of Indian administration and political system.

Veteran theatre artiste Ranjit Kapoor, who was also the dialogue writer of the film, said that today the film is more relevant than ever.

Kapoor was speaking at the session organised by the International Film Festival of India to pay tribute to Shah.

"I personally believe that if people think our administration was harsh at the time, then I'd say it has become harsher now. And I feel the relevance of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro has become greater in today's time. In fact, I feel more scared than I used to be at the time. At least, during that time we would feel that there was some freedom of expression, which I can't really see right now."

He further added, "There are a lot of incidents that I have seen and they have made me scared. I don't think we would have made Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro in present time. However, I feel that had Kundan been here I would have forced him to make another ‘khatarnaak’ film."

"The current situation is such that if Kundan was alive and we would have planned another Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro then our legs would have been broken," he remarked.

The session included other cast members Satish Kaushik, Neena Gupta and the film’s co-writer Sudhir Mishra.
