Actress Raai Laxmi has worked in films of all South Indian industries. She has occasionally also done Hindi films, most recently appearing in a dance number in Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa. Her last Malayalam film Oru Kuttanadan Blog with Mammootty, which released in 2018, did not fare well at the box office. The failure of the film led to her absence from Malayalam films for the last 6 years. After this hiatus, Raai Laxmi is returning to Malayalam cinema with the upcoming film DNA. The movie, which is a suspenseful cop drama, will have her slip into the shoes of an IPS officer. Though her role as a cop had been revealed last year itself, last month her character name was revealed to be IPS Rachel Punnoose. She is usually known for her glam avatars, but Raai Laxmi has gone with a de-glam and bare minimum make-up look for this film.
The makers of DNA have now finally revealed the release date of the film. DNA will reportedly be released on June 14; it will be a Bakr-id special release. It is interesting to note that this will not be the first time Raai Laxmi will be playing an IPS officer in a Malayalam film. She had previously played a character of an IPS officer in Aaru Sundarimarude Katha which was released in 2013.
While talking about her role and look in DNA , Raai Laxmi said: “As an actor, I have made my mark with South Indian film industry, especially Malayalam films, and they say if you work in Malayalam film industry, you are a certified actor and that’s a great validation since they are known for content.”
DNA is directed by T Suresh Babu. Described as an investigative thriller, the film includes cinematography by Ravichandran, editing by John Kutty, art direction by Shyam Karthikeyan, lyrics by actor Sukanya, music by Sharreth, and a background score by Prakash Alex.
