FIR Against Cops After Police Beat UP Teen For Violating Corona Curfew in Unnao
The incident took place in Bhatpuri locality in Bangarmau area when the boy was selling vegetable outside his house. An FIR was registered against the policemen and one homeguard.

A 17-year-old boy died Friday after he was allegedly beaten up by the police in UP’s Unnao for “violating” the ongoing corona curfew’ in the state, his family claimed, following which a constable was suspended and a homeguard jawan sacked.

The incident took place in Bhatpuri locality in Bangarmau area when the boy was selling vegetable outside his house. An FIR was registered against the policemen and one homeguard.

The family alleged that the boy was caught by a constable for allegedly violating ‘corona curfew’ and thrashed with a stick. He was later taken to a police station, where he was again thrashed following which his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead, the family alleged.

After about 5 hours of family members jamming the road, the SP assured them of investigation into the matter. On the instructions of the SP, two accused cops were suspended, while the home guard has been dismissed. Even after this, the family remained adamant on the murder case and demanded for ex gratia of 10 lakh. The family of the deceased calmed down only after a case of murder was registered against the policemen. After this, the police sent the body for postmortem.

Agitated with the police action, the locals created a jam at Lucknow road crossing, demanding action against the guilty, a government job and compensation for the victim’s family. On the instructions of the SP, two accused cops were suspended, while the home guard has been dismissed. “Constable Vijay Chodhury has been suspended with immediate effect in the matter and services of homeguard Satyaprakash have been terminated. The entire matter will be probed and an FIR will be registered against the policemen,” the police statement said.

Meanwhile, former CM Akhilesh Yadav spoke to the victim’s family on the phone and assured them of all possible help.

During the partial lockdown in Unnao’s Bangarmau area, Vijay Chowdhury, a policeman from Bangarmau Kotwali, went out to patrol along with his fellow constable Seemawat and home guard Satyaprakash, after they received information about shops being opened amid curfew. It is being said that at about 4 pm, Faisal was held by the policemen and it is alleged that the cops took the vegetable seller on their motorcycle to the police station, where Faisal was beaten mercilessly.

When the condition of the vegetable vendor deteriorated the police personnel hurriedly took him to the CHC Bangarmau. Where the doctor declared him dead. On the death of Faisal, the policemen fled from the scene. Meanwhile, the information of the death reached to the relatives after which a crowd gathered on the spot.

After this, the relatives accused the cops of killing Faisal. The relatives caused a ruckus on the Unnao-Hardoi road by blocking the road. The family remained adamant on the demand for action against the accused cops and compensation of Rs 10 lakh. ASP Shashishekhar Singh, along with the police force of many police stations rushed to the spot to control the situation.

Speaking to media on the issue, ASP Shashishekhar Singh said, “The vegetable vendor was brought to the police station premises to implement the ongoing corona lock down, where his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to CHC Bangarmau where he died. Both cops and home guard have been suspended in the case. Action is being taken against the trio by filing a case against the accused on the written complaint given by the family members.”

Senior officers are reaching the spot to meet the family members. The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed corona curfew’ in the state till 7 am on May 24 to curb the spread of coronavirus cases.
