IU’s agency EDAM Entertainment offered an apology over excessive verification procedures regarding the ticket reservations for her concert.

In the past few days, popular K-pop artist IU has been courting a lot of controversy following a shocking revelation that tickets for her upcoming tour have been subjected to illegal trading and suspected fraudulent transactions. This has led to a massive backlash towards the artist and the agency, EDAM Entertainment. Besides that, fans have also come forward criticising the lack of empathy in handling the ticket situation.

One such specific incident involved a fan, who allegedly engaged in proxy ticketing, which means purchasing tickets on behalf of someone else due to personal circumstances. This practice came under scrutiny after a social media post shared details of the incident, stating that the fan was barred from entering the concert and permanently expelled from IU’s fan club for “illicit ticket trading.”

IU’s agency apologises for ‘illicit ticket trading’ controversy

Amid the ongoing controversies that have surrounded the K-pop artist and her agency, EDAM Entertainment has issued a statement conveying an apology to fans over the present issues.

While apologising to all the fans who were affected by the excessive verification procedures regarding the ticket reservations for the artist’s upcoming 2024 World Tour Seoul Solo Concert, the agency also expressed regret over the concerns caused due to the particular incident.

Besides expressing a sense of responsibility and sincerely apologising, the agency also presented a revised plan based on fans’ suggestions, including abolishing the reward policy on illicit ticket trading, improving the identity verification process for ticket collection, and the permanent expulsion policy in the official fan club. “We will completely abolish the “reward policy” for the “illicit ticket trading” (secret royal inspector policy). Moreover, we will strengthen our internal monitoring team for cases of illicit trading and premium ticket reservations,” it stated.

The agency also assured that in collaboration with Melon Ticket and the concert organising committee, all the affected fans will be compensated as per their desired directions.

“All our staff are aware of the need for policy reform and the problematic nature of this incident. We will do our best to prevent recurrence and continuously improve based on the opinions and suggestions of fans. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by our operating policies and the deep wounds inflicted on fans and the artist. We will continue to monitor and make improvements to show our efforts to make betterment,” the statement concluded as quoted by a Soompi report.
