BANGALORE: Urging Bangaloreans to adopt a healthier and ecofriendly option for transport, city-based Green homes realty company BCIL - ZED Habitats organized “Zed Miles”, one of the city's biggest cyclothon events.Over 1,000 cycling enthusiasts, comprising of students, working professionals and environmentalists took part in the event. The two hour cyclothon kick started at the Vidhana Souda at 8 am and ended at Malleshwaram 18th Cross, Pre-university grounds by 10 am. Notable celebrities Shirin Eshvari and Sunil Puranik showed their commitment to a sustainable Bangalore.The event was carried out in partnership with educational institutions and various commercial organisations.The initiative, was aimed to induce awareness, especially among the young Bangaloreans, regarding energy conservation, rising pollution in the country and a healthy lifestyle.Also, it encouraged people to be self-sufficient, away from the electricity grid and conserve water, electricity and energy in general. It motivated them to take out time from their stressful schedule and contribute to the environment they live in.Speaking at the event, Chandrashekar Hariharan, chairman & co-founder, BCIL - ZED Habitats, said “We are glad that we’ve been able to make a dent in Bangalore’ collective consciousness by organising this event. We hope that the participants will walk away feeling more energised and motivated to contribute to a sustainable Bangalore.While most are already convinced of the health benefits of cycling, there is a pressing need to find a solution to the burgeoning numbers of polluting vehicles that choke our roads. The Cyclothon is a way of saying ‘let’s start with ourselves’ and commit to reduce the carbon footprint on this city.’’
