As is the tradition, PM Modi took with him a few gifts for the President and his family

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump for the first time on Tuesday at the White House. Both leaders spoke on fighting terrorism and improving trade ties after their meeting, which was marked by warmth and bonhomie between the two leaders.

Hand-woven shawls from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh were also presented to Trump. The Prime Minister also presented a hamper containing a traditional, handcrafter Himachali silver bracelet, tea and honey from Kangra valley. Trump was also presented with a wood chest with intricate inlay pattern that is a speciality of Hoshiarpur in Punjab.

In September 2014, the first time Modi met the then US President Barack Obama, the Prime Minister gifted the President a special copy of the Gita - interpreted by Mahatma Gandhi - a rare photo of Martin Luther King at Rajghat and a copy of a speech he gave in India. These were the Prime Minister’s personal gifts to Obama, along with other official gifts.
