The violence triggered by the arrest of CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan in connection with the murder of Muslim League worker Abdul Shukkoor, continued unabated on Friday also causing tension in the sensitive regions of the district here.
The Co-operative Hospital at Taliparamba controlled by the CPM was attacked by an alleged group of Muslim League workers early on Friday morning. It was at this hospital that CPM leaders P Jayarajan and T V Rajesh MLA were admitted after the attack on their car at Ariyil.
Shukkoor was murdered a few hours after the CPM leaders were admitted to the hospital on February 20.
According to the local people, it was a group of masked men who attacked the hospital at around 2am on Friday.
Windowpanes, doors, and hospital equipment were destroyed in the attack. Cars, motorbikes and autorickshaws parked on the premises of the hospital were also damaged in the attack. The hospital has incurred an estimated loss of around `10 lakhs, according to hospital sources.
Case Filed
The police have filed a case in connection with the attack on the hospital on the basis of a complaint filed by V Mohanan, chief executive of the hospital.
The AKG memorial Reading room at Thaliyil near Parassinikkadavu was attacked by an alleged group of Muslim League activists.
The Habeeb Rehman Smaraka Mandiram at Ezham Mile near Taliparamba, which functions as the Muslim League branch committee office also was damaged by an unidentified group of people.
Attacks on houses of various local political leaders also were reported from different parts of the district on Friday.
