THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has decided to recommend a CBI investigation into the attack on school teacher R Krishnakumar at Valakam, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday. The Opposition had been strident in its demand for a CBI probe into the incident in the ongoing Assembly session.Talking to reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting, Chandy said that Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, Mullakkara Ratnakaran and Aisha Potty had written to him demanding a CBI probe.R Krishnakumar, the teacher of Rama Vilasam HS, Valakom, was attacked on the night of September 27. He suffered grave injuries on his private parts and is currently undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital, here. Contradictory statements by Krishnakumar, the statements made by his wife Geetha, and the phone calls made from the mobile phone of jailed former minister R Balakrishna Pillai, the manager of the school, had sparked off a bitter controversy over the attack.Initially, it was stated that Krishnakumar was attacked with an iron rod. Then he himself gave a statement that he was thrown out of a white Alto car after being attacked by a group of men. The latest was that he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The Chief Minister had told the Assembly that Krishnakumar’s contradictory statements were confusing the police.
