Moscow: Jamaica and the United States put their top sprinters into the women's 100-meter final for the next installment of their sprint rivalry later Monday at the world championships.

Usain Bolt already beat Justin Gatlin in the men's 100 to give Jamaica the early lead. The U.S. team has three in Monday's final, led by defending champion Carmelita Jeter. Two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce leads a Jamaican duo.

The United States also has four finalists in the 110 hurdles, led Olympic champion Aries Merritt, defending champion Jason Richardson and the season's top performer, David Oliver. Already atop the medal standings after the opening weekend of the world championships, the United States will be looking for more in Monday's evening session.

In the heptathlon, Ganna Melnichenko of Ukraine took a narrow 2,919-2,882 edge over Sharon Day of the United States. Brianne Theisen Eaton, the wife of decathlon gold medalist Ashton Eaton, was back in fourth place.

The seven-discipline, two-day event is wide open since Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill and defending champion Tatyana Chernova are both out injured. Heading into Monday's events, the United States leads the medal standings with two gold and three overall, edging Kenya and Ethiopia, which both have one medal of each color.

Bolt and 100 bronze medalist Nesta Carter put Jamaica into fourth place. The other finals on Day 3 are the men's pole vault, where Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie will be looking for his first world title, and the men's hammer throw. In the women's shot put, Valerie Adams of New Zealand will be looking for her fourth world title in a row, while Amantle Montsho of Botswana will be trying to retain her 400 title.
