CHENNAI: The exclusive preview of USA Through the eyes of an Indian Artist-Texas by Thota Tharrini was inaugurated by Andrew T Simkin, Consul General of America. The collection of paintings was inspired by Texas’s vast dry lands filled with oil wells. “The idea sparked when I visited the US recently. I wanted to come up with a kind of a travel guide on the US, which would also give a perspective about the city, through portrait,” says the veteran. “The first thing that inspired me in USA was Texas and its oil wells. This is the place where you’ll find rigging and other such action like nowhere else in the world,” he adds. A significant feature of his recent works is that there is nothing green about it anywhere, nor any human element. “Texas never gives the image of green anywhere. It is nothing but vast dry lands. And you cannot miss the oil wells and massive rigs, which I’ve highlighted throughout the series,” he adds. This exhibit is the first of the series. “What would come next and when it would come, I cannot say. Who knows it might be New York or Chicago!” he says. These paintings will be on public view at the Focus Art Gallery from Aug 12 to 20.
