CHENNAI: DMK MLAs were evicted en masse from the State Assembly on Tuesday following a wordy duel over the remarks made by Adi Dravida Welfare Minister about the family of DMK president M Karunanidhi.Replying to the discussion on the demands for grants for his department, the Minister narrated an anecdote of a greedy farmer who desired to amass unlimited wealth but ended his life in the effort. He said the greedy farmer got, first an iron spade, followed by silver spade, and lastly a golden spade as a boon from God. But unfortunately, when he went on digging earth with each spade respectively, he could not find anything and at one point of time, found himself at the bottom of a huge pit. Within minutes, the sand deposited by him around the pit filled in the pit ending his life. The Minister likened the greedy farmer to Karunanidhi, iron spade to MK Stalin, silver spade to MK Alagiri and golden spade to Kanimozhi. Immediately, former Minister Thangam Thennarasu objected to this remark and DMK members urged the Speaker to expunge them. After the Speaker refused, noisy scenes in the House followed when Leader of House O Panneerselvam said it was improper for the DMK members to point their fingers at Speaker and make their demand.Following this, the Speaker asked the Marshals to evict DMK member Adhi Sankar for making some gesticulations. As the DMK members were on their feet even as Adi Dravida Welfare Minister was reading out the announcements for his department, the Speaker ordered their eviction en masse. While some of the DMK MLAs were evicted by the Marshals, many of them walked out of the House.
