BANGALORE: Former state BJP president B B Shivappa has slammed his party's central leadership, especially national general secretary Ananth Kumar, for what he termed "inept" handling of the issue of choosing B S Yeddyurappa's successor."It is an unpardonable blunder on the part of Ananth Kumar to have forced voting to choose the new leader of the legislature party. This has led to a vertical split which ought to have been avoided," Shivappa told Express here on Thursday.According to him, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley too are to be blamed for the present developments in the party as they blindly believed Ananth Kumar."They should have taken an independent decision and tried to persuade the warring leaders to choose the leader unanimously instead of secret voting, which did not remain secret," he added. He said Shettar was used by Yeddyurappa-Ananth combine in 1999 to deprive Shivappa of the post of the leader of the Opposition. "Shettar was once again used by Ananth when a crisis developed in 2009 threatening Yeddyurappa's position. Now, once again Ananth used Shettar to fight his battle against Yeddyurappa, but failed (in it)," Shivappa said and added that Shettar should have insisted on being elected unanimously as the leader of the legislature party and should not to have agreed for a secret voting. "Shettar has the potential to become the leading figure of northern Karnataka." Shivappa said.
