Madrid: Andy Roddick withdrew from the Madrid Masters due to illness ahead of his opening match on Wednesday.
The fifth-seeded Roddick, who had a bye into the second round, was scheduled to play Feliciano Lopez of Spain.
Roddick said he had been vomiting for the last couple of days and felt too weak to play after warming up for the match.
Roddick told a news conference that "this is far from perfect in terms of preparation for Paris" although he still plans to compete in the French Open starting on May 23.
Spain's Oscar Hernandez, who narrowly failed to qualify for the main tournament, replaced Roddick in the draw.
