The construction work of the sidebays of the North RoB is at its final stages and will be opened to the public on November 15, District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth has said.
He was speaking after a site visit to the RoB on Saturday. “The work of the sidebays is moving smoothly. With the exception of setting the steel girders above the railway tracks, almost all the works are nearing completion. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will open the bays next month,” he said.
He added that the work of setting the girders which were expected to start this week, has been delayed as the Railways are yet to sanction the timetable in this regard.
“Since the girders have to be set on the bays directly overhead the railway tracks, it is mandatory for the Railways to allot the time so that the DMRC can carry out the work. The time table is expected to be received soon,” said Pareeth.
He added that the new flyover connecting the Rajaji Road near the KSRTC bus stand will be opened on December.
Meanwhile, SRM Road Residents Association members and shop owners approached the District Collector requesting him to provide them a route from the road to Kaloor.
“Currently, when the sidebays were under construction, SRM Road leading to Lissie Junction was closed down, creating hassles for nearly 5,000 residents living here. We have been forced to travel two kilometres to reach the junction. We have requested the Collector to allow an opening that directly connects SRM Road to the junction,” said a residents’ association member.
He also added that the residents are willing to give away their land for the project. The District Collector said that the issue will be taken into consideration. DMRC project manager P Sreeram and ward councillor Gracy Joseph were also present.
