Roads near Assembly blocked

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Monday’s events inside the Assembly also triggered road blocks in the immediate neighbourhood after Left protests inside the House spilled on to the streets.DYFI and SFI activists staged prolonged sit-ins at one end of the road leading to the Assembly where they had been blocked by the police. Following this, traffic along the road in front of the Assembly had to be re-routed.One lane of this road had been blocked since afternoon. There was talk of Left protests in the city since morning as a decision on Friday’s ruckus inside the House was expected anytime. But the decision was announced in the Assembly only by 1.50 pm.The DYFI announced that it would stage the sit-in until the Left leaders called off the protests inside the Assembly. After the Left started protesting against the decision and launched a sit-in inside the House, more DYFI and SFI activists had started arriving outside. The sit-in on the road dragged on late into the evening.
