Ramadoss recalls AIIMS registrar

New Delhi: The stand off between the Union Health Minister and AIIMS director P Venugopal took a new turn on Monday. V P Gupta was reinstated as registrar of AIIMS by Dr Ramadoss.

The director's office has issued a show cause notice to the institute registrar V P Gupta for allegedly creating confusion over the matter of salaries of doctors who were on strike against reservations.

The registrar, said to be close to Dr Ramadoss, had been asked to explain within two weeks why he didn’t release the 17 day's salary of doctors who had gone on strike.

Ramadoss, who is on a warpath with Venugopal, had stopped salaries of the doctors for the strike period of almost 16 days, saying ‘no work no pay’, despite the court orders that no punitive action will be taken against striking doctors.

Venugopal was criticised for allowing the almost 16-day anti-quota reservation in May to be run from the institute's premises and ‘being lenient‘ with the agitating doctors and students.
