Jaipur: Asking the legal fraternity to be ready to adopt new challenges, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Sunil Ambwani on Sunday pitched for lawyers to get trained in legislations related to sea, space, cyber, environment and intellectual property rights.
The state's chief justice was delivering a presidential address on the valedictory function of the two-day National Law Conference which was themed on "dispensation of justice: challenges posed by new and emerging trends in law".
"The members of the legal profession have to be ready to accept new challenges. Our lawyers are not yet trained in sea laws, space laws, cyber laws, environmental laws and IPR.
"Very few lawyers are aware of technological advances made in our country, and the need for the law is to adopt these changes. The new tools are being forged to deal with arrears and court management," Justice Ambwani said.
The judge said that the courts are changing its focus from dispute resolution to justice dispensation and the members of the legal profession must respond to tackle the increasing crime in society and break the "nexus between crime and politics".
"A common man may despair, not the lawyers. A trained, intelligent and vigilant lawyer can provide an answer to the evils of the society. The ethics in legal profession can act as a potent vaccine to the acquired immunity deficiency syndrome, breaking up the fabric of society", he added.
"No reform in judicial system is possible without cooperation and active assistance of the lawyers. These reforms should begin with legal education, interactive sessions, seminars, conferences, and training programmes", he said.
The Bar Council of India, and the Bar Councils of the States, have to maintain the strict regime of ethics in the legal profession, he said, adding "the Bar plays an important role in assisting the courts in dispensing justice."
The access to justice and its just dispensation cannot be realised without a "competent and knowledgeable Bar", he said.
