KARWAR: All mechanised fishing boats have returned to their respective fisheries harbours of Uttara Kannada district following squally winds with a speed of 25 to 30 knots prevailing off the coastal region. Since the dredging exercise is going on at Baithkol fisheries harbour, all boats have been anchored off the harbour. The meteorological department warned that the situation would prevail for the next 24 hours following a deep depression in the South-East Arabian Sea with its centre 220 km from Thiruvananthapuram. The sea has turned turbulent in many places, including Dhareshwar, Alvekodi in Kumta taluk and Belke in Bhatkal taluk. Fifteen country boats sheltered on the shore at Belke were severely damaged by the heavy tidal waves.Haldipur village in Honnavar taluk experienced heavy rains for an hour on Sunday. The weather continued to remain cloudy on Monday in all the coastal taluks of the district.
