Protests in Jammu and Kashmir after Eid prayers; Pakistani flags raised
The protests are being held even as Hurriyat Conference has announced that it will attend the Eid Milan at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on July 21.

Srinagar: Protests led by Hurriyat were held in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir including Anantnag and Srinagar after the Eid prayers on Saturday. Pakistani flags were also raised during the protests. There are no reports of injuries so far due to the protests.

A group of youths started pelting stones at police and paramilitary forces in Eidgah area of the city soon after the Eid prayers concluded, a police officer said. He said the trouble-makers were chased away by the personnel of the law enforcing agencies.

Similar incidents of stone-pelting were also witnessed in Kothibagh area of the city but the police managed to restore order by chasing them away, the officer said. A group of around 50 youth indulged in stone-pelting at Lal Chowk in Anantnag area of south Kashmir but were chased away by the police, he added.

The protests are being held even as Hurriyat Conference has announced that it will attend the Eid Milan at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on July 21. It said that they will utilise the occasion to stress that India and Pakistan cannot resolve their "secondary issues" without including Kashmir in the dialogue process.

The spokesman had said that Hurriyat's decision to attend the event was not a political reaction but based on its decided policy and principles for resolution of the Kashmir issue.

However, Hardline Hurriyat Conference has decided to boycott the event to protest non-inclusion of Kashmir in the talks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif held in Ufa in Russia.

Pakistani flags along with that of Islamic State and terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba were raised in the Nowhatta area of the state on Friday too after the prayers. Police had to fire smoke shells to disperse the youngsters who pelted stones on them.

Raising of flags has rather been a reoccurring activity since the People's Democratic Party (PDP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government came to power.
