No singer who sings for AR Rahman can say they were nervous: Chinmayi Sripada
The singer says her solo composition 'Idhayam' in the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer 'Kochadaiiyaan' was a tough one

Chennai: Popular playback singer Chinmayi Sripada says her solo composition 'Idhayam' in the Tamil album for the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer 'Kochadaiiyaan' was a tough one, but music composer A R Rahman made things easy.

"I wasn't nervous when I sang it. No singer who sings for Rahman sir would ever say they were nervous to sing for him, especially during the session. Maybe before the session, yes. It is a tough composition but Rahman sir has a way of

making things easy for the singer," Chinmayi told PTI.

Directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya R Ashwin, 'Kochadaiiyaan,' also starring Deepika Padukone, is being released in six Indian languages -- Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Punjabi simultaneously in 2D as well

as 3D, at over 6,000 screens worldwide.

Chinmayi, 29, who recently got married to actor Rahul Ravindran, is thrilled over 'Mast Magan' in 'Two States' being ranked at the top of the charts and the response to 'Idhayam' after the music launch in March.

Soon after the launch, she took to her page in a social networking site to express her gratitude for the response she got to the song and to Rahman for making her sing his compositions.

"... I can definitely say no song, so far, has gotten me this sort of a response online and offline. I am grateful to Rahman sir. There is no way I can repay the graces he has extended to me by making me sing his compositions. Grateful

that I got to sing one more song in thalaivar's (as Rajinikanth is popularly known) film. Grateful to Soundarya too, that she retained the song in my voice in the film...."

Chinmayi sang the same song in the Telugu version of the album as well.

Jackie Shroff, Sarath Kumar, Nasser and Shobana also enact and voice key supporting characters in the computer-animated film.

Referring to 'Two States,' she said Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy had composed the music for the Alia Bhat-Arjun Kapoor starrer and it is the first time she was working with the famous threesome.

"It was a dream come true working with SEL. The experience was great with the entire session well coordinated by Shirin who works for SEL," she added.

Lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya was also present during the session, Chinmayi said.

Asked if music directors explain the nuances, she said "Once one knows the language it is self explanatory... yes music directors do explain and extract the nuances they want."

On Tamil projects, she said: "I have a few interesting songs coming up for new and established composers and hoping that this year should be good."

"It is exciting to work for new talent, and to be able to leave a good impression on them. Helps me in preventing this thing called stagnation that is rumoured to set in, in artists."

Chinmayi also sang a soulful composition 'Kis Tarah Se Shukar Tera Ada', picturised on Rajeev Khandelwal and Madalsa Sharma in 'Samrat and Co'. The music was by Mithoon with whom she has worked before for 'Lamhaa.'

"Working with Mithoon has always been a fulfilling experience, more so because he is a very elevated soul spiritually."

Also a dubbing artiste, Chinmayi is looking forward to dubbing for actress Samantha for Telugu movie 'Manam.'

On her upcoming Bollywood projects, she said, "Let the compositions sing for themselves."
