National Welfare Award for Bakul

BHUBANESWAR: Bakul Foundation has been presented the National Award for Child Welfare 2010. The award was given away by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Teerath at a function held in Delhi on Monday. The award carries a citation and a cash prize of ` 3 lakh. The Award was instituted to encourage the voluntary sector and give ‘’recognition to such outstanding voluntary actions”. The Ministry was impressed with the work of Bakul in promoting reading, creativity and imagination among children through its library and workshops. It also found it inspirational that all the work has happened entirely with the resources of volunteers and without any institutional funding.
