HYDERABAD: The ruling Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam Party indulged in a verbal duel during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address on the sixth day of the Assembly session on Wednesday. Finally, Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu had his way and he trained his guns at three ministers demanding their immediate dismissal from the cabinet for “misuse” of power. It all started when Chandrababu Naidu expressed his disagreement with the govenor’s addresss. He called the government a gang of dacoits who were trying to mislead the public by presenting a rosy picture of the state’s finances while siphoning off crores of rupees.Taking a serious view of this, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said “the opposition can have its say, but the government has its way” on any issue and hence, Naidu should control his tongue and not use unparliamentary words in the House.Naidu said he was not using any unparliamentary words but was only trying to explain the misdeeds of the ministers.“Recently, a minister forced the officials to change the examination centre at Srikakulam town to arrange his son’s marriage reception there. As the examination centre was shifted to another town, a young woman who was travelling with her father on a twowheeler to appear for the examination lost her father (in an accident). This is nothing but misuse of power for personal benefit by the minister,” said Naidu. He demanded that the bereaved family should be paid an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh and government job to the young woman. However, Roads and Buildings minister D Prasada Rao refuted the charges saying Naidu was trying to gain political mileage by defaming him.The college was never under consideration as an examination centre for the VRO and VRA recruitment exam held on February 19.“We booked the college ground and paid the prescribed fee in November itself, while the examination dates were announced on January 7.We took all permissions from the authorities concerned and the accident that occurred had no connection with the function,” he explained. He wanted Chandrababu Naidu to check facts before making such allegations following which TDP members rushed to the Speaker’s chair protesting against the interruption to Naidu’s speech.Naidu further alleged that a minister from Krishna district had issued orders to the officials concerned asking them to sanction houses only to the beneficiaries recommended by Congress leaders.Admitting that he had indeed given such orders following requests from Congress leaders, secondary education minister K Parthasaradhi said there was Congress government in the state and party leaders would be given priority in implementation of schemes.
