Morena: Unidentified miscreants vandalised Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar statue in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday that has triggered tension in the city.

The incident has been reported from village Kaimra under Jaura police station area.

The anguished villagers informed the police on Saturday after they found a damaged statue. Upon receiving the information, senior police officers launched a manhunt to nab the culprits and registered a case against unknown persons. The police somehow placated the agitated mob and assured them that culprits would be arrested soon.

Post Bharat bandh organised on April 2, several Ambedkar statues were found damaged in Gwalior, Morena and Bhind.

A panicked administration had deployed armed guards to protect the statues but the vigilance was discontinued soon after things normalised in the state.

The anti-social elements perhaps took advantage of the fact and performed their nefarious act, a police officer said claiming that the culprits will be nabbed soon.
