CHENNAI: With all major parties having decided to go it alone, perhaps for the first time, it is going to be contest between seven candidates for the mayorship of Chennai Corporation. Already, the AIADMK has fielded Saidai S Duraisamy while the DMK renominated incumbent Mayor M Subramanian, the MDMK has announced K Manoharan as its nominee and now the DMDK has fielded the party’s trade union wing leader K Velmurugan.The grapevine, meanwhile, has it that the BJP may choose advocate Vanathi Srinivasan or Dr Thamizhasai Soundararajan as its candidate for Chennai Mayorship while the Congress has said that the party would announce the list of candidates on September 26. Filing of nominations began on September 22 and it closes on September 29.
