KOCHI: The two Italian marines arrested from the ship ‘Enrica Lexie’ who are in police custody admitted that they had shot more than 20 rounds of bullets at the fishing trawler. The accused revealed this while being questioned by the police with the help of an Italian interpreter. The police had given the accused a questionnaire in Italian. Italian Consulate General Giampaolo Cuttillo was also present during the interrogation. Police officials said that more questioning will be done in the coming days.Meanwhile, the police seized the passports of the crew members of the ship which had sailed to outer sea. “The passports were seized as part of the investigation and they will be handed over to the crew after legal proceedings,” police officials said.The police have also found that the two navy men have not followed the procedures of maritime law. In case of any accident or possible threat, the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre at Mumbai has to be intimated first. However, the shooting incident was reported only after an hour. “The police in the coming days will look into all these issues,” an investigating official said.
