The Foreign Minister will also meet Hillary Clinton to discuss Obama's visit to India.

New York: Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) have told CNN-IBN that Foreign Minister S M Krishna is likely to meet his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in New York.

Krishna arrived in the US on Tuesday to lead the Indian delegation at the UN General Assembly. The major meeting he will hold is one with Hillary Clinton, where they will talk about the preparations of Barack Obama’s visit to India. Krishna is also likely to push nuclear commerce during the meeting.

There is confirmation on Krishna’s meeting with Qureshi in New York especially looking at recent sharp comments over the issue of violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal conveyed New Delhi's request during a meeting with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir.

The Foreign Office has conveyed this to the highest levels in the civilian and military leadership, the sources said, adding the chances of a meeting are very likely.

While Krishna will be in New York till September 29, Qureshi will be there till September 30.

During his stay in New York, Krishna will also be involved in several "plurilateral events" with several groups including G77, NAM, BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China), IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa) and the G4 (India, Japan, Germany and Brazil).
