Kerala Student's Art Illustrations Included In SCERT Textbooks
This year's SCERT Class 5 Basic Science and Sanskrit textbooks, as well as the Class 3 EVS textbook, feature Melvin Rupesh's imaginative illustrations.

Melvin Rupesh of Kattappana, Idukki in Kerala has always identified himself as an artist. Melvin loved to draw since childhood and has won many competitions since his formative years. Melvin drew the logo selected for the 2019 Revenue District Art Festival. Now. the young boy has added another feather to his cap.

Art creations by Melvin Rupesh have found a place in (State Council of Educational Research and Training) SCERT textbooks. This year’s SCERT Class 5 Basic Science and Sanskrit textbooks, as well as the Class 3 EVS textbook, feature Melvin’s imaginative illustrations. Alongside poems and stories, the textbooks showcase his depictions of Kattappana Idukki Kavala village. He has depicted the village beautifully on canvas and every intricate detail of the village has been elaborated well by him.

The inclusion of his images in the textbooks is a testament to the talent that Melvin has nurtured within himself. A BFA student at Thiruvananthapuram College of Fine Arts, Melvin never anticipated that his paintings would be featured in children’s textbooks.

Melvin desires to reach new heights in the world of painting. He considers it a great achievement to have his illustrations published in textbooks. His dedication and hard work are reflected in the quality and creativity of his artwork. The SCERT had approached teachers of Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram to have their illustrations and paintings used in their textbooks.

Along with the teachers who contributed to the curriculum, SCERT also selected a few students to contribute and have illustrations in SCERT textbooks. Alongside the main artists, seven students, including Melvin, were invited to contribute illustrations this time. Besides Melvin, the illustrations were created by Joel Chacko, Albin, Anand Reggie, Sarang and SR Shijuraj.

SCERT is responsible for material development both for children and support materials for teachers. Other functions include research in various aspects for qualitative improvement of school education.
