KOCHI: The keel laying ceremony of two platform vessel ships (BY85 and BY 86) being built by the Cochin Shipyard Ltd for the Shipping Corporation of India was held at CSL the other day.The keel of BY 85 was laid by V Radhakrishnan, Director (Technical) and the keel of BY 86 was laid by Ravikumar Roddam, Director (Finance) in the presence of B Chakravarthy, GM (Technical Services), Shipping Corporation of India.The two vessels are the first of the Rolls Royce UT 755CD design being built by CSL. These are medium segment diesel electric PSVs designed to cater to meet the all-round needs of the Offshore oil and gas industry. The vessel of 78-m length and 16-m breadth meets the highest levels of environmental safety denoted by the Clean Design notation of Det Norske Veritas and will be dual classed by Indian Register of Shipping.The vessel is also capable of carrying methanol and is equipped with Firefighter-I equipment and Dynamic positioning Grade 2 equipment.
