Jayalalithaa gathers consensus to deter government from rolling out GST

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is gathering consensus for stopping the government from rolling out the Goods & Services Tax.

Jayalalithaa has informed all Chief Ministers that she has written to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley about the issue.

Jayalalithaa said there are concerns over the impact of GST and urged the Centre to build consensus without compromising the fiscal autonomy of states. Many states have been opposing the provisions of GST, fearing loss of revenue and autonomy.

GST is an indirect tax reform that aims to remove all barriers between states and integrate the country into a common market.
