New York: Stand-up comedian and actor Ed Lauter died from a rare form of cancer. He was 74. Lauter died Wednesday. He was suffering from mesothelioma, commonly caused by asbestos exposure, reports hollywoodreporter.com.
It was discovered in May that he had contracted mesothelioma, said his publicist Edward Lozzi.
Lauter recently played a baseball scout opposite Clint Eastwood in sports drama 'Trouble With the Curve' and had recurring roles on 'Shameless as Dick Healey' and 'Pysch' where he played Deputy Commissioner Ed Dykstra.
He made his TV debut in 1971 in an episode of 'Mannix' and then shifted to the silver screen with 'Dirty Little Billy' in 1972.
Lauter has been part of films like 'King Kong', 'The Rocketeer', 'School Ties' and 'Not Another Teen Movie'.
