Hoax Bomb Threats Target Mumbai-Bound IndiGo Flight, BMC Headquarters, Over 60 Hospitals
Hoax bomb threats targeted a flight from Chennai to Mumbai, while staff at BMC headquarters also received a hoax bomb threat.

A bomb threat was received concerning IndiGo flight 6E 5149, which flew from Chennai to Mumbai on Tuesday. The threat call was directed to the IndiGo call centre in New Delhi. The flight landed in Mumbai around 10:30 p.m.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the bomb threat to the said flight.

Along with the flight, several other airports including Chennai, Coimbatore, Patna, Vadodara and Jaipur, received bomb warnings. The hoax threats were sent via email.

“IndiGo flight 6E 5149, operating from Chennai to Mumbai, had received a bomb threat. Upon landing in Mumbai, the crew followed protocol and the aircraft was taken to a isolation bay. All passengers have safely disembarked the aircraft. We are working with the security agencies and post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also received a hoax bomb threat where a man threatened to blow up the civic agency’s headquarters in the financial capital of India.

“Mumbai’s BMC headquarters received a threatening email. The unknown person threatened to blow up the headquarters. The police investigated the BMC headquarters but did not find anything suspicious. In this case, further investigation is underway,” Mumbai Police told news agency ANI.

On Tuesday, over 50 hospitals in Mumbai, including Jaslok Hospital, Raheja Hospital, Seven Hill Hospital, Kohinoor Hospital, KEM Hospital, JJ Hospital, and St. George Hospital was targeted with bomb threats sent via email.

According to a statement from the Mumbai Police, the emails were sent through a VPN network and the identity and motive of the sender are yet to be ascertained.

Authorities have launched a probe to identify the person or group responsible for these threats.
