HC notice to BBMP on PIL

BANGALORE: The High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by film maker Girish Kasaravall and 14 others challenging the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) move to convert a residential plot for commercial purpose and granting permission to construct a sixstorey building on it.
The petitioners have contended that the BBMP has converted the residential plot located at BTM Layout 16th Cross. The peace and tranquility of the area will be disturbed if commercial activity is permitted in a plot in residential area, they have argued and requested the court to quash the government notification dated April 27 thought the State Government has granted the request for change of land use in favour of Roop Sing Chowhan and C R Prithviraj. A Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh has issued a notice to BBMP and directed it to file counter affidavit within four weeks.
