CHENNAI: The annual Green Month campaign hosted by Ascendas began its third week’s celebrations of the month-long campaign last weekend, at the International Tech Park. The campaign included a list of programmes to highlight the need for increased awareness about environmental issues.First up was a seminar by filmmaker, Mansoor Khan, who emphasised that the economy will suffer with the shrinkage of oil. He said that the three E’s — energy, environment and economics are interconnected, but the environment is often excluded from the equation.Next was a workshop on portrait photography by Raja Ponsing, who enlightened the audience with techniques to capture the perfect image. “Portrait photography is not about what you see, it is about what you want to tell people,” said Ponsing. “It is not a snapshot, but a planned detailed activity. And it is all about understanding the movement of light.This was followed by wildlife photographer Ramnath Chandrashekhar’s workshop on capturing the elements of the natural world through his lens.A lecture by Jayshree Vencatesan, Managing Trustee, Care Earth, titled ‘Ecological History — Planning Perspectives Revisited’ traced the roots of ecological conservation. The event reached a fitting finale with a photography competition themed: ‘My Kind of environment’ , which received close to 120 entries Judged by Ramnath Chandrashekhar and Raja Ponsing. The hand-picked winners received awards at the end of the programme.
