CHENNAI: With just six more days to go for Deepavali, people have already begun flocking to jewellery stores in the city. Keeping the festive season and people’s urge to buy gold during the festival in mind, the World Gold Council introduced a campaign on gold. “Don’t waste, invest in gold” was the theme of the afternoon at Nathella Sampathu Chetty, Mylapore. To stress on the importance of gold, which plays a significant role in our lives these days, the World Gold Council India, in association with the NAC, Chennai, launched the bridal collection, as part of their campaign. The council has been highlighting the message that investing in gold jewellery gives one emotional satisfaction and strengthens relationships.Anatha Padmanaban, MD, NAC, said, “The rise in prices of gold has only sky-rocketed the demand for jewels. People have started to realise that gold is a better form of investment and that the resale value of gold is much higher than anything else.” Azhagi fame actress Monika, who graced the occasion, was seen wearing the exquisite gold ornaments. She was decked with armlets, aarams, antique-finish bracelets and earrings. Each piece of gold was a recreation of Nakshi work (temple jewellery).Intricately-carved goddess motifs were encrusted on 24 carat gold, each pendant weighing 20 grams.  Also present at the event was Shivram, director, World Gold Council, India.  Speaking on the occasion, Shivram said, “We want to let everyone know that gold is a smarter investment these days. Since Deepavali is one of the grandly celebrated festivals down south, we want to start our campaign from Chennai.” But why NAC? “NAC has introduced light weight jewellery and they’ve some intricate bridal jewellery sets, so we decided to collaborate with them.”In addition to this, NAC will also hold a lucky draw in which customers will get an opportunity to win jewellery worth `10lakh.
