HYDERABAD: Temples continue to be the target of property offenders. Two temples were burgled in separate incidents in the city late on Monday night.
In the first incident, locals of Neredmet found the main door lock of Swamy Vishwanath temple broken and alerted the temple priest on Tuesday around 5 a.m. "Two hundis in the temple were broken open forcibly and cash stolen," police said. Temple authorities said nearly `20,000 might be in the hundi. A small silver pooja article was also stolen. In another incident, thieves broke into the Sai Baba Temple at Miyapur and stole 30 kg silver articles worth `15 lakh. Police suspect professional offenders might be behind the thefts.In recent thefts at temples, miscreants had broken into Lord Venkateshwara temple at Banjara Hills and Sai Baba temple at Kukatpally and decamped with valuables.
