New Delhi: The Formula One season is halfway through and it is time for introspection for drivers like Felipe Massa especially after what hasn't turned out to be a good season so far.
After finishing second best to Lewis Hamilton last season, Massa now finds himself on the sixth spot.
With slender margins separating drivers in qualifying and on race days the team’s tactics and the fractions of seconds they can save have become vital.
Massa reveals his team's approach towards deciding the right tactics so far this year.
“Well, usually the quickest driver on Q2 (the second of three qualifying sessions) has the preference on the strategy, so who is quicker on Q2 has the first choice of the right strategy. Doesn't mean that will be the right strategy because many things change on the race, but the priority is for the quicker driver on Q2,” says Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa.
In contrast, the season has been rewarding for drivers like Red Bull's Mark Webber who has managed three second place finishes already.
And he admits, it is difficult for him to escape the thrills of speed even when he is recharging his batteries ahead of a big race.
So, if he isn't practicing, it is easy to spot him attending Superbike events.
“Yeah, pretty much. I have been to a few bike events before and, you know, it is always nice to come to Donington (Park) and have more time on my hands, let me say, and watch the guys go about their racing. There is a lot of categories too, in terms of the Superstock and Superbikes. So, it's a good mixture of categories of bikes and, obviously, a selection of riders to follow,” says Red Bull F1 driver Mark Webber.
Clearly, two stories in contrast, but coming Friday they will both start the first practice at the German GP circuit with a podium finish high on their agenda.
