Estimate committee reviews sewage works

PUDUCHERRY: Estimates committee of Legislative Assembly met under MLA AMH Nazeem on Tuesday  and reviewed the `300.65- crore comprehensive sewerage scheme, after several MLAs raised doubts about the implementation of the scheme . The committee insisted that country bricks should be used for manhole covers as mentioned in the award of tender. The square design of the manhole should also be retained as was in the tender. Besides, cement pipes should be used instead of altering it to PVC pipes. The chief engineer  said the PWD had replied to CVC who had sought a reply from the government over the award of work for the project on Jan 18, 2010. After this the CVC has allowed the government to go ahead with the project.
