New Delhi: Death toll due to Ebola continues to rise even as the disease has already claimed more than a 1000 lives so far. Health officials are now in the race to develop treatments which are mostly based on experimental methods as there is no proven treatment or vaccine for Ebola.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the Ebola outbreak is expected to continue. On the other hand, Guinea has declared a public health emergency, sending health workers to all affected border points to keep the Ebola outbreak under control.
Ebola is in some ways similar to the AIDS virus because it is spread through bodily fluids, according to Stephen Morse, of Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. Unlike those infected with HIV, those with the Ebola virus are considered infectious only when they show symptoms, which include fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
