Dense Fog Shrouds Delhi-NCR; 94 Trains Running Late, Chaos at IGI Airport as Flights Get Delayed

New Delhi: Foggy weather condition persisted in Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning disrupting rail, road and air traffic.

Owing to the low visibility conditions, 94 trains were reported to be running late whereas, two were cancelled and over 16 others were rescheduled, as informed by the Northern Railways.

Several trains are running late at the Nizamuddin Railway Station out of which some are, Toofan Express, Taj Express, Jabalpur Express, Tamil Nadu Express , GT Express, Mumbai CSTM Amritsar and Golden Temple Mail.

Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were also affected due to the dense fog cover in the national capital resulting in low visibility, which left passengers in a lurch.

Around 8 International flights arrivals have been delayed whereas, delay in the arrival and departure of 17 domestic flights at the IGI Airport has been reported.

Air carrier Jet Airways on Thursday announced that some of their flights to Guwahati have been affected. It also requested the passengers to check the status of their flights.

As informed by Skymet chief Mahesh Palawat, dense fog will persist for next 2-3 days across northern India.

Visibility at 5.30 a.m was 400 meters, which dropped to 100 meters at 8.30 a.m., the IMD said, similar situation will continue for at least two more days.

"The sky will remain clear in the day with dense to very dense fog in the morning," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the weather office, the maximum temperature was likely to hover around 23 degree Celsius, and the humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 97 per cent.

Wednesday's maximum temperature settled at 24.3 degrees Celsius, the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 11.2 degrees Celsius, the season's average.

On Wednesday, at least 21 trains were rescheduled and 81 were running behind schedule due to poor visibility, sources told CNN-News18.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Tuesday announced its preparedness in tackling the fog season at the India Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), to ensure continuity of flight operations during the low visibility period during winter.
