Celebration and joy filled the air as 440 postgraduate students and more than 1,900 undergraduate students from Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute lined up to receive their degrees on the occasion of the University’s 21st convocation here on Thursday.
Impromptu photo sessions, nervous chatter and the raucous cheering of students as their friends went up on stage were heard on the balmy afternoon.
Students from a wide variety of streams like B Tech, Nursing, Hotel Management, M Tech and MBA among others received their degrees.
Glittering trophies and medals were awarded to students for University excellence in postgraduate and undergraduate study as proud parents looked on.
Chief guest K Radhakrishnan, Chairman - Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bangalore who delivered the convocation address, congratulated them on receiving their degrees and urged the students to take the path of science.
“Jawaharlal Nehru said that the future belongs to science.
It is science alone that can carry this country forward,” Radhakrishnan emphasised.
Founder-Chancellor of the University, A C Shanmugam delivered the key note address and wished the students all the best in their future endeavours.
