CMDA reorganises enforcement cell

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Thursday issued an order re-organising its enforcement cell to set up separate wings to deal with enforcement action and completion certificates, respectively, in Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The decision comes in the wake of a monitoring committee recommending that the cell set up separate wings for issuing completion certificates and enforcement action. At present, the enforcement cell comprises three divisions in North, Central and South Chennai and deals with completion certificates, refund or forfeiture of deviated security deposit and enforcement action on unauthorised constructions, CMDA sources told Express.

Following the re-organisation, one wing will look into issuance of completion certificates and other related issues, miscellaneous tasks like handling petitions from the public requesting enforcement cell action and petitions from the Chief Minister’s special cell and other agencies.

The other wing will pursue only enforcement action such as forfeiture of security deposit and physical enforcement like locking, sealing and demolition.

The reorganisation of the enforcement cell will result in formation of four divisions from the existing three. The present geographical jurisdiction of North and Central divisions will be renewed into single division, while the South division will remain unaltered. Each stream will have two divisions. In addition, each division will be allotted a vehicle.
