New Delhi: Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles on Sunday visited the controversy-plagued Commonwealth Games Village, where they interacted with participants asking them about food and other facilities in the now swanky complex.

After their over two-hour-long stay, the Royal couple looked happy with the facilities at the complex, which had been described as "filthy" and "unlivable" by many foreign delegates in the run up to the Games.

The Prince of Wales interacted with athletes from various countries including Australia, Cayman Island, Trinidad and Tobego, Jamaica, Bahamas and Ireland, besides his own country Britain. The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward also accompanied the couple.

Charles, who represents Queen Elizabeth II at the Games' opening ceremony, asked the athletes about their competition events, their preparation and their stay at the Village and wished them luck.

The Queen had asked the Prince to represent her at the opening of the Commonwealth Games after deciding to give the ceremony a miss.

"I am really inspired getting to talk to him. He asked me about my event, my preparations and about the facilities here. I said the facilities are really fantastic," said Ramone McKenze of Jamaica who will participate in the track and field events.

Jon Rankin of Cayman Island, after interacting with the Prince and Duchess of Cornwell, said both the Royal family members were happy to know that we were enjoying here.

"We told them that we are having a fantastic time here. We are really enjoying it," Rankin who is part of the 18-member Cayman Island team said.

The Royal couple also visited the sprawling dinning hall at the Village and also wanted to know about the food.

"He asked us about the food and we told him that the food is really good. It was an inspiring interaction," said Zoe Smith of Britain who will participate in wrestling competition.

Earlier, Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Mike Fennel and Games Mayor Dalbir Singh welcomed Charles and the Duchess of Cornwell.

The couple will be visiting other parts of the country including Jodhpur and Amritsar.
