HYDERABAD: Former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana tried his best to convince the investigators that he had very little role in the Vanpic agreement but failed in his efforts. He reportedly tried to explain to the CBI that he acted according to the directions of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.Failing to convince CBI and when he felt that his arrest was imminent, the former minister reportedly tried to turn an approver and escape arrest. The CBI sleuths, however, did not heed to his request and finally made him an accused in the case, sources said.Venkata Ramana's name will now figure as an accused and not as a witness or an approver.According to sources, Venkata Ramana, who had earlier  appeared before the CBI a couple of months back, also made it clear that he acted according to the instructions of the then chief minister. ``I was asked to sign on the dotted line and I had to do it as I was instructed by the chief minister,'' he reportedly told the CBI.Venkata Ramana still has a chance to turn as an approver by filing a tender of pardon petition during the course of trial in the court. However, the same had to be permitted by the investigating agency and also the other accused.Meanwhile, the special CBI court on Friday sent letters to  speaker Nadendla Manohar and governor ESL Narasimhan informing them about the arrest of Venkata Ramana.Bandh for Mopi partialGUNTUR: The bandh call given by followers of Mopidevi Venkata Ramana condemning his arrest in connection with Jagan illegal assets case, evoked partial response in the district on Friday. However, the bandh went off peacefully.
