The Crime Branch team investigating the sex racket, in which a girl from Kazhakuttam was taken to Dubai, will begin procedures to seek Interpol’s assistance to nab the culprits living abroad. A request will be sent to the Home Department in this regard.
According to Crime Branch officials, several Dubai-based Keralites are involved in the case, and they can only be caught with Interpol’s assistance.
“Some of the persons in the state have been quizzed. From the girl’s statement, the key persons including some Keralites staying in Dubai, have been found involved. Their identities can be confirmed only after conducting a detailed investigation in Dubai. We will request the Home Department for the Interpol’s assistance in this regard. More women have been transported from various parts of the country. The racket receives assistance from several UAE citizens. Girls are supplied to rich people and the working community from other countries,” the Crime Branch official said.
Meanwhile, the woman from Kattappana, whose passport was forged and used by the girl to go to Dubai, was also suspected to have been part of the racket. “No statement has been taken from the woman, but we will question her soon. We have currently charged a case for passport forgery. The charges for human trafficking will be taken based on an investigation by the Interpol,” the Crime Branch official said. The girl who was taken to Dubai had escaped from the racketeers’ net, and arrived in Mumbai.
The Immigration Department at Dubai was the first to find out that the passport was fake. Based on its information, it was learnt that the girl was taken to Dubai with the help of an official of the Nedumbassery Airport. The case was later handed over to the Crime Branch. The official of the Immigration Department has been suspended, and he is still at large.
