British village blacklisted after postman bitten by fleas

London: Britain's Royal Mail has blacklisted a village after a postman was badly bitten by fleas. The postman was left with bites all over his arms and legs while making his daily delivery to houses in Queens Crescent in Chippenham, Wiltshire, The Sun reported. He complained to his senior officials, who suspended all services to the village.

Residents now have to drive over three km to pick up their post every day. They said the insects originated at a rental property, where a dog also died last year. The insects have "run wild" ever since and even found their way into other houses on the street, the daily said.

A 58-year-old woman, Lynne Cosh, said fleas have taken over her bedroom and forced her to sleep on a chair in the kitchen. "I feel sorry for the poor postman, I can't blame him, I saw his bites, they were horrible. I know what it's like to be bitten by fleas. He was eaten alive," she said. The Royal Mail has apologised to residents but said the "exceptional step" was taken in order to safeguard the health and safety of its employees.
